Outline of biomarkers

A biomarker can be simply defined as “an indicator of specific disease condition or status of a living organism.” As shown in the figure below, there are various biomarkers, ranging from very simple molecular markers to complex ones, and their measurement methods range widely.

In general,
Simple biomarker = limited information = reveals not so many details, but measurement is easy and inexpensive.
Complex biomarker = a lot of information = reveals many details, but is troublesome and expensive.

Genetic markers that can be measured with DNA microarrays, including 3D-Gene®, are between these two positions.
